Liverpool Military Show

Liverpool Military Show

23, 24, 25 May 2009

The people of Merseyside are in for a real extravaganza over the next bank holiday weekend. On the 23rd, 24th and 25th May, Walton Hall Park will see the return of the annual Liverpool Military Show, now in its 8th year.

The Show - supported by the Ministry of Defence as part of the British Armed Forces Day celebrations in June - is an exciting showcase for all three branches of our armed forces with a truly exciting programme for the whole family. Amongst this year’s attractions are the Parachute Regiment’s ‘Red Devils’ Freefall Parachute Display Team, the Royal Signals White Helmets Motorcycle Display Team, the Band and Bugles of the newly formed Rifles regiment - the UK’s largest Infantry Regiment, the Band of the 4th Bn Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment (TA) and various combat displays.

This year we are welcoming back 2z promotions who in previous years have brought to life, although be it on a smaller scale, the English Civil and Peninsular Wars. The Show will see a number of re-enactment groups living and fighting as many of our Grandparents did over 50 years ago. In attendance will be representatives of the US Infantry, 101 Airborne, 116 Panzer Grenadiers, 9 Falskrimjager, British Paratroopers, Royal Norfolk’s and the 55 Infantry Division as they bring to life the sights and sounds that were to engulf France following the Normandy Campaign of the Second World War. When not in the arena all groups will be on display in their living history camps giving the people of Merseyside a realistic impression of the Normandy front line supported by jeeps, trucks, armoured vehicles and other authentic equipment.

There will also be a number of static attractions around the arena with DROPS vehicles, armoured vehicles, the 105mm gun of 103 Regiment Royal Artillery, the Fire Brigades fire safety exhibition, a Tornado training cockpit and a number of Historic military vehicles.

For the Children there will be an assault course, aerial rope slide, simulators, paintballing, laser rifle range, and face painting. To ensure there is something for everyone the show is also hosting a Market with a selection of foods, beers and crafts on offer.

The show is held to raise awareness of the various military charities in Merseyside including the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA Forces Help), which helps and supports those who serve in our Armed Forces, those who used to serve and their Families. . With 14 million service and ex-service men and women and their dependents eligible for support from UK charities, it is only through an event such as the Liverpool Military Show that worthwhile causes such as SSAFA Forces Help, are able to ensure that our brave men and women and their families are able to receive the help and support they need.

The Show runs from 10am to 4pm on all three days, In order to beat the credit crunch we have reduced admission on the gate to the very affordable price of £3 for adults and £2 for children under 14. As ever Cadets, scouts and guides in uniform as well as Veterans wearing their Veterans badges get in for free. A programme of events will also be available to help you plan your weekend and learn more about our armed services.

This will be a Bank Holiday to remember with everyone attending the Show leaving in the knowledge that we have incredibly skilled, efficient and modern armed forces with a worthy military heritage, which is still the envy of the world. Coming to the Show will be a great way to show your support for all the men and women willing to step forward as our first and last line of defence in maintaining our security at home and abroad.
