Live Lounge: Nik Kershaw and Paul Young
80s ICONS POP INTO LIVE LOUNGE!
Two of the biggest names of 80s British pop are coming to Liverpools Live Lounge later this month. Nik Kershaw plays on Sunday 22nd March and Paul Young with his new band Los Pacaminos on Sunday 29th March.
Nik Kershawsigned with MCA Records in 1983 and released his debut album Human Racing in 1984. It achieved multi-platinum sales and launched Niks career worldwide. His records spent 50 weeks on the UK singles chart that year, beating all other soloists. The equally successful The Riddle followed and, in July 1985, he took the Wembley stage to perform at Live Aid.
In 1990, after four MCA albums and sales of over 8 million, Nik left the spotlight to concentrate on song writing and producing. The following years saw him working with Elton John, Chesney Hawkes (for whom he penned the Number 1 hit The One and Only), Cliff Richard, Bonnie Tyler, Lulu, Ronan Keating, Jason Donovan and Gary Barlow to name but a few. He has received accolades from such legends as Eric Clapton and Miles Davis and has been nominated for four Brit Awards. Following a successful series of intimate gigs in 2008, Nik is now back on the road, this time solo, presenting a show which features all his hits, plus material from his more recent albums.
Los Pacaminos are a band you can absolutely count on for a great night out! While the name may mean little (as yet) to music lovers, at least one member of this highly respected group will be very familiar. The Tex-Mex outfit is led by one of the UKs finest and best loved vocalists - Paul Young.
Paul is not the only luminary in the seven piece band, however. Some of the best musicians in the business have teamed up to present the incendiary mix of Tex-Mex classics, Spanish songs and original material that make up the music of Los Pacaminos.
Los Pacaminos first came together in 1995, the result of Pauls desire to get back to basics. As he explains I was between record labels and writing material for a new album but I wanted to play live again. Ive always loved the Tex-Mex sound and knew a few musicians who had a similar passion for this type of music. So I asked them to join me in forming a band.
The bands long-awaited first album is suitably titled Los Pacaminos and is out on What Records and distributed through ID/Universal, it features 12 great tracks guaranteed to get your pulse racing and the dancing shoes on. The band comprise some of the best known names in the business. From a variety of backgrounds theyve covered all kinds of music but are all in accord on one - the sound thats brought them together as Los Pacaminos.
